Master Gardener Presents: Soil Food Web Microbe Health

Learn about the soil food web, how it works, how to use it, and how it can make your life easier in the garden and lawn.  When the soil food web is restored, plants are better able to control the nutrient cycling that takes place in their root zones.  They are able to access stored minerals in the organic matter and in the parent material so that the plants get a constant flow of nutrients that they can control.  The soil food web also provides protection against pests, diseases, helps to inhibit weed growth, and reduce irrigation needs helping to conserve water.  Once the soil food web is restored the natural ecosystem functions are also restored reducing the need for chemicals.
