Sister Library Partnership

CG Library Book Talk

The Kimberly Public Library is partnering with Chughtai Public Library (CPL) in Pakistan to promote cultural literacy and build global relationships. Over the coming months, we hope you will get to know the readers of Pakistan through our relationship with CPL. We will swap stories, photos of our communities, book recommendations, and even share some of our favorite cultural traditions.

Letter from the Director

A World of Stories Bridges Communities Across the Globe: Our New Sister Library Partnership

At Kimberly Public Library, we believe libraries are about more than books—they’re about building understanding, celebrating diversity, and bringing people together through the stories we share. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce a new Sister Library partnership with Chughtai Public Library (CPL).

CPL is a remarkable, privately funded public library system based in Lahore, Pakistan. With branches in cities across the country and a mission grounded in education, access, and cultural preservation, CPL brings a vibrant spirit of learning and connection to communities throughout Pakistan.

Some of their featured services include:

  • Digital preservation of historic materials. (Did you know Pakistan is located along the Indus River Valley—widely considered one of the earliest cradles of civilization?)
  • A Book Tuk-Tuk—a mobile outreach service similar to a Book Bike, but delivered via tuk-tuk, a three-wheeled motorized vehicle commonly used like a rickshaw.
  • A nationwide Book Club program, with ambassadors across Pakistan leading discussions in their own communities.
  • An amazing, fact-filled website: Visit CPL online

Like Kimberly Public Library, the librarians at CPL believe libraries are more than places to borrow books—they are places to grow minds, foster understanding, and build relationships. At their core, libraries around the world strive toward the same goal: bringing people together through knowledge and shared experiences.

Sister Libraries are part of an initiative supported by the American Library Association to encourage global partnerships that promote cultural exchange, professional collaboration, and mutual understanding. These relationships are symbolic of friendship, global connection, and the belief that knowledge transcends borders. They remind us that even across continents, communities can learn from one another, celebrate their differences, and find common ground through stories and service.

This partnership between Kimberly and Chughtai libraries is more than symbolic. It’s an active exchange of ideas, programs, and perspectives—rooted in a shared commitment to books, education, creativity, and community. Through this collaboration, we’ll celebrate what makes each of our cultures unique while discovering the values we hold in common.

In the coming months, you may see displays, book exchanges, or virtual events that highlight this international friendship and invite our community to learn more about Pakistan’s rich literary and cultural traditions. We’ll also be sharing our local Wisconsin heritage in return.

We’re excited to introduce you to our friends at Chughtai Library—and to discover what we can learn together. We can’t wait to take this global journey with you—our patrons—by our side. At a time when the world can feel divided, this partnership builds a bridge made of stories, understanding, and shared curiosity.
